Perseverance and Partnership: Two Decades of Purple Loosestrife Management on the Michigamme River, Michigan
Abstract
Wild Rivers Invasive Species Coalition (WRISC) has partnered with WE Energies since 2009 to conduct comprehensive survey and manual removal of invasive Purple Loosestrife from the Michigamme River system in Republic, MI. Starting in 2020, WRISC expanded this effort upstream along the river thanks to additional partnerships with neighboring Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas (CISMAs) and funding from WE Energies. This survey and removal effort has been ongoing for two decades and has shown cascading improvements throughout the system.
This presentation will highlight the benefits of partnership that made this level of long-term river management possible and will also discuss the integrated field work efforts that have contributed to the current results.
