Oral History Interview, Joniel Pacheco-Muñoz (2548)
Abstract
In his August 2025 interview with Edwin Elizabeth Thomas, Joniel Pacheco-Muñoz discusses his role as a graduate student in UW-Madison’s Gender & Women’s Studies (GWS) Department. He came to UW-Madison in 2024 after living and studying in Puerto Rico for his whole life. He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with majors in psychology, Puerto Rican studies, and gender and women’s studies. He recalls what originally interested him in the GWS field and what brought him to UW-Madison, citing his advisor’s suggestion of UW-Madison as a top-choice school. Pacheco-Muñoz also touches on the importance of diversity in GWS and his hopes for the department’s future. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the GWS @ 50 Oral History Project of the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
