Oral History Interview, Keisha Lindsay (2554)
Abstract
In her August 2025 interview with Edwin Elizabeth Thomas, professor Keisha Lindsay details her career in UW-Madison’s Gender & Women’s Studies (GWS) Department. She started on the tenure track in 2010 and originally became interested in the field after taking a GWS class during her senior year of undergraduate studies. She double majored in political science and Black studies and later pursued a master’s degree in developmental studies in Jamaica. She then worked in West Africa before returning to the U.S. to earn her PhD in political science. Lindsay discusses the evolving role of the GWS Department, sharing that it has become more institutionalized into the greater university over the years and how the department has responded to protests and social movements. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the GWS @ 50 Oral History Project of the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
