Oral History Interview, Katherine Phelps (2549)
Abstract
In her July 2025 interview with Edwin Elizabeth Thomas, Katherine Phelps discusses her role in UW-Madison’s Gender & Women’s Studies (GWS) Department. She joined the department in 2017 and currently works as both teaching faculty and as the alumni engagement coordinator. Phelps touches on how she originally became interested in the field, growing up in Madison and taking her first GWS class as an undergraduate student at Beloit College. She also acknowledges how the department has evolved throughout her time working in it, mentioning her love for teaching and admiration for the intelligent students. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the GWS @ 50 Oral History Project of the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
