    Abstract
In her July 2025 interview with Edwin Elizabeth Thomas, Rachel Kuo details her role in the Gender & Women’s Studies (GWS) Department at UW-Madison. She recalls joining the department the year prior in 2024 and what originally interested her in the GWS field, noting that it was the only space that really supported the theoretical work she was doing. Kuo discusses how the GWS field is seen as constantly emerging and what it means to study, teach, and research it in an uncertain political climate. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the GWS @ 50 Oral History Project of the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
