This project involved the collection of water samples and field measurement of several water quality parameters from 10 locations in the vicinity of Hog Island and four locations on Newton Creek (maps attached). Field measurements were made using several field instruments. Water samples were collected at mid-depth in the water column using a brass kemmerer water sampler (Wildlife Supply Company, Model 1200) or by placing a plastic sample bottle at mid-depth and opening the bottle (site 11). The plastic bottle procedure was used where the water depth was not great enough to use the kemmerer sampler. Samples collected with the kemmerer were immediately transferred to plastic sample bottles which had been provided by ERA Labs. The samples were stored in a cooler until they were returned to the University of Wisconsin - Superior laboratories where they were placed into a refrigerator for overnight storage. Samples were delivered to Murphy Oil USA, Inc. at 9:00 AM the following morning. The samples were to be transported to ERA Labs by an employee of Murphy Oil USA, Inc.en_US
