Institutions of higher education have faced significant changes. While institutions have adapted to these many changes due to internal and external factors, limited inquiry is available on experiences of regional admissions professionals facing and adjusting to these changes. While existing research has studied higher education admissions functions, a paucity of literature exists on regional admissions professionals (RAPs). To address this gap, a qualitative phenomenological research design was conducted. Twelve study participants (RAPs) were interviewed about their experiences recruiting in the Midwest during a fall recruitment cycle. Interviews were transcribed and coded for patterns and themes. Data analysis generated findings related to the core functions of RAPs and underscored the importance of being adaptive and maintaining relationships. Further, findings revealed the extent to which support was provided for RAPs and how data was used in developing recruitment strategies. The outcome of this study provides insight to fill a gap in literature. In practice, the study aids admissions professionals and higher education leaders on how to support and lead a team of RAPs based on their experiences. This study provides a foundation for future inquiry into regional recruitment practices.
