Abstract
In his three October 2006 interviews with Bob Lange, Richard Askey, Professor Emeritus in Mathematics, offered stories and memories about his time on campus. He spoke about the time period from the 1940s through the 2000s and discussed the following topics: Family background; Education in mathematics; Washington University; Graduate study; Bell Labs; Teaching; Hiring by UW; Math department; Research; Committee service; TA strike and campus protest; Faculty Senate; Courses; Notebooks of Ramanujan; Mathematics education; New Math; “Math Wars”; and Graduate students. This interview was conducted for inclusion in the UW-Madison Archives’ oral history collection as one of its campus life histories.
