The application of schema theory to junior high school English listening instruction
Abstract
Under the Supervision of Dr. Joshua James Anderson In today's economic globalization, learning a foreign language has become an essential skill, among which listening is an indispensable ability between people. Effective listening teaching methods should be adopted to achieve the purpose of training. This helps students to know which behaviors they are doing in listening can improve their scores. This paper studies the current situation and existing problems of English listening instruction and combines the schema theory as the guiding ideology. This paper discusses how to combine "bottom-up" and "top-down" listening modes with schema theory to promote English teaching and help students overcome their difficulties in listening comprehension under the two modes. It further expounds the necessity and related ways of improving English listening instruction modes and then discusses schema theory, listening teaching, and the function of schema on listening comprehension. Finally, experimental results show that under the guidance of the schema theory, the top-down listening mode has different application priorities in different links before listening, during listening and after listening. In this process, more attention is paid to activating students 'existing schemas to reduce the difficulty of listening and stimulate students' interest in learning. Besides, the bottom-up listening mode also analyzes how to improve the teaching effect.
