Oral History Interview, Harriet Meermann (2345)
Abstract
In her 2024 interview with Gabby Griggs, Harriet Meermann details the stories and memories she has as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison during 1969 through 1973. Meermann shares her experiences related to classes, professors, friends, part-time jobs, and activism in Vietnam War peace protests, women’s issues of equality, and environmental issues. She also speaks on how UW-Madison prepared her for successful career in education as she reveals her work after graduation, which included working with Head Start programs, the International School in Honduras, Bank Street College of Education, and Miami Dade County Public Schools. Meermann then discusses her involvement with the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy organization and her continuing career at the Miami Dade County Public Schools as a substitute teacher. The interview was conducted for the inclusion into the Class of 1973 Reunion Project for the UW-Madison Archives & Records Management oral history collection.
