    Abstract
The built environment is responsible for about 42% of global CO2 emissions, with opportunities to improve with technology. The 42% is broken down to 27% is building operations, 7.7% is building, and 7.3% materials of global CO2 emissions. Poor landscaping exacerbates water runoff issues, but incorporating native plants offers a cost-effective solution. Life cycle costs of building infrastructure reduced by 13.4% when retrofit measures are implemented.
