Measuring for Change in Concentration of Metals within the Regions Ceded in the 1837 and 1842 Indian Treaties
Abstract
Interest in mining for metals is increasing in the areas ceded in the treaties between the
U.S. government and the Ojibwe tribes in 1837 and 1842. In the interest of protecting the natural resources and peoples of these regions, the tribes have investigated methods of monitoring any activities that may have potential to change the environment. Ideally, the monitoring methods will be sensitive enough to measure change before the change can be manifested as declines in populations.·
