The hospitality industry continues to be economically important around the country, if not the world (Barron, et al.,). Today’s workforce is changing quickly with the baby boomers staying and returning back into the workforce, and the continual addition of millennial workers entering employment (Tapscott, 2009). Generation X is in the middle of the two largest generational workforces, and management will need to balance the needs of all three generations to be successful. This study examines the backgrounds and ideals of baby boomers, generation x, and millennials as they work in the hospitality industry and to identify differences in the workplaces in terms of communication and technology. The study shows generational similarities and differences such as flexibility in ones work life, motivational work style, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, collaborating with same or other generations, and career loyalty. Multiple theories were used to analyze finding to assist employers in managing the workplace environment. Fifty-nine individuals in corporate, managerial and customer service positions in the Wisconsin hospitality workforce completed a survey where they identified their company’s organizational structure and their generational groups employed. Participants were asked to identify their perceptions of generational attitudes, behaviors, and communications and the various generational groups.en_US
