    Abstract
Americans churn out an average of over 7 pounds of trash each day. As landfills reach capacity, it is becoming ever more critical to cultivate effective waste-sorting habits that can reduce waste-stream contamination, extend the lifetimes of landfills, generate compost, and nurture sustainably minded communities. This study examines the habits and behaviors of students as they dispose of their lunchtime waste at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Davies Student Center.
