RED CLAY EROSION DEMONSTRATION RESEARCH FIRST ANNUAL REPORT
Abstract
The central emphasis of this .study is to identify major vegetational components of the Little
Balsam and Skunk Creek watersheds and to relate this cover to the erosion of the red clay soils.
The examination of the historical record reveal ,changing land use patterns and to attempt to
identify the effect of man's presence on the erosion of the red clay soils is also of interest.
Work during the past year concentrated on two aspects of the project. One major effort was a review of the historical documents and subsequent analysis of that information. This work is near1y complete, and the next section (B) presents a summary report. The second major effort has been in the location of aerial photography of the two study basins and the delimitation of vegetative cover in preparation of field studies to begin with the spring initiation of the growing season. This work is discussed in part C.
