Description
As the Asian population in central Wisconsin began to
increase so did concern about the seemingly never ending flow of
new immigrants. The concern centered around the Hmong and their
culture. This culture was new and strange to central Wisconsin
and there was some resistance by non-Asians to this new culture.
One reason for non-acceptance is the lack of knowledge about
the new culture and the inability to effectively communicate with
cross cultures. Through a series of vignettes scheduled to be
broadcast on central Wisconsin television stations, this thesis
project will provide information about the Hmong culture.
Accurate information is one tool that will help correct
misconceptions that non-Asians may have about the Hmong thus
improving communication among these diverse cultural groups.
Before a program could be produced to meet this need it was
paramount that research be conducted to gather pertinent
information about the Hmong and their culture. Understanding the
Hmong experience requires basic knowledge about the Hmong and
their culture.
