The Wisconsin Idea at the Wisconsin Academy
Abstract
The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters has conducted several statewide studies (Wisconsin Idea projects) of important public issues, including Waters of Wisconsin and The Future of Farming and Rural Life in Wisconsin. The academy brings together interested parties from government, universities (public and private), school systems, industry, agriculture, citizen advocacy groups, and others to discuss issues such as these. Forums around the state provide opportunities for networking and exchange of ideas. At the end, a symposium is held to summarize the ideas that have emerged from the forums and to make recommendations for further action. The academy is now considering its next Wisconsin Idea project. In this session, Margaret Lewis and Millard Susman will provide a progress report on the past project and gather ideas from participants for the new one.
