    Abstract
Professor Bleiklie will present an analysis of the ways in which ideas and ideals of university organization and governance have changed over the past few decades, moving away from a notion of the university as a republic of scholars towards the university as a stakeholder organization. Bleiklie's presentation will include a discussion of influential, supranational trends in university governance; an analysis of how change may be promoted or limited within universities; research findings about international variation in the level of change within university organizations; and an analysis of how change and variation may be understood in terms of higher education.
